Interview with Eli of MLB rumors

I would like to thank Eli of Elismlbrumors for letting me do this interview. Eli is a 17 year old MLB writer who has a blog that gets thousands of views a day. He is very successful with many Baseball interviews and has gained attention from many sports writers.

The email interview:

How old were you when you first got interested in baseball?

I was always interested in baseball and have played it for as long as I can remember. I would say my 'serious' interest came after the Cubs won the division in 2003. That was when I really started to really get interested.

When did you create MLB rumors?

One night I got back from hanging out with my friends. I was on the Cubs fan forum and saw someone created a Cubs blog. I thought it was a cool idea, having always been interested in web design, so I started one about baseball. I would have followed the offseason as closely even without the blog, but with it, I would read the news and then report back to it.

How long did it take you to start gaining so many views?

Not long. This was a big off season so when I got the word out, I had people coming in the thousands. I was really happy with that, and would have not kept it going if people weren't coming.

Have you got any help?

No, I take pride in doing it by myself.

Does your blog make more money for you then a job?

Some months, yes. I am an umpire as well and a camp counselor, so I have a steady flow of money coming in. However, I do not feel that I am working with the blog. It is a passion, something I enjoy doing, and I am hope it will lead to a career in baseball.

How did you ever get the attention of so many baseball writers?

Hard work, knowledge, creativity, passion.

When did you think up MLB Today the newest addition to MLB rumors?

It is something I have wanted to do since Blogger came out with the video feature. Once I put my mind to it though, I was able to get it done. Right now, I am working on getting other bloggers up there interested in talking about their team or blog.

When did you first think up BB rumors?

I wanted to create a large network of bloggers in hopes of becoming the best in the business. But I really like doing this on my own and the other sites took a long time to get going. It is still a network, but not what I imagined it as.

Wil Nieves adds spark to Nats

A player that was expected to do nothing special for the Nationals is now giving us wins! The pitchers seem to like him. He seems to be a great catcher. Last night he gave us a win with a game winning homer-his first career homer. I hope that when Lo Duca comes up we dont send down Nieves.

Nationals review

Record: 8-16

The good things:

Tim Redding- He is the clear ace of the season so far.

Odalis Perez- Even though he is 0-3 he has been giving us very solid starts.

Christian Guzman-The guy just keeps getting on base! He's a BEAST!

Nick Johnson-Giving us big power

The bad:

Matt Chico- 0-4 he just isnt doing good

Outfield errors

Late inning pitching-Loses us games

The skid ends

Sorry everyone,

I promised myself that I wouldn't blog until the Nationals won another game! We are 4-9 but I have seen many positive things. #1-Power-I have seen more homeruns. #2-Nick Johnson-He is healthy and is hitting like a mad man #3-Christan Guzman-He is crazy out there, he is doing great at the plate

 Bad Things

Starters-They are not doing well at this point. Redding is good but I see some problems

Outfield mishaps-Lastings and Wily Mo had some problems catching the ball this week.

Im back!

I am so sorry fans. I have been having technical difficulties with the new MLBlogs. I am now back to full time blogging.

25 man roster

From Washington Nationals.com

Looks good. The rotation is not ready with only 4 starters.

From Wasingtonpost.com:

The Nationals made the following moves to set their regular-season roster:

C Johnny Estrada goes on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis. The move is retroactive to March 21.

OF Ryan Langerhans was outrighted to Class AAA Columbus. He cleared waivers, and will roam the outfield there.

LHP John Lannan was optioned to Class AAA Columbus, but Manny Acta said he could be back soon depending on Shawn Hill's status.

INF Pete Orr was reassigned to Class AAA Columbus despite a very fine spring in which he hit .389.

RHP Chris Schroder was optioned to Class AAA Columbus.

So that leaves:

DL:
Johnny Estrada
Shawn Hill
Wily Mo Pena

Overall I like it. I like our bench alot. Lets hope we dont have so many injuries!

Favre RETIRES!!

After flirting with retirement for years, Brett Favre means it this time. The Green Bay Packers quarterback quit after a 17-season career in which he dazzled fans with his grit, heart and rocket of an arm.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," Favre, a 17-year veteran and three-time NFL MVP, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message.

"If I felt like coming back -- and Deanna [his wife] and I talked about this -- the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl. To go to the Super Bowl and lose, would almost be worse than anything else. Anything less than a Super Bowl win would be unsuccessful," Favre said in the message.

"I know it shouldn't feel unsuccessful, but the only way to come back and make that be the right decision would be to come back and win a Super Bowl. And honestly, the odds of that, they're tough. Those are big shoes for me to fill, and I guess it was a challenge I wasn't up for. "

Expected to become the starter is Aaron Rodgers who has spent years on the bench waiting for this moment. The Packers should be OK for now. I think if Brian Brohm is there they should take him in the draft. They should trade up.
